World Cup group matches tips and preview

The 2014 World Cup has started in brilliant fashion, with goals galore and shock results.

Holland’s 5-1 victory over the holders Spain was an amazing result and no one saw Costa Rica’s win over Uruguay coming.

Five of the groups will be over half way completed come Saturday morning and here is a look at Group A-D’s second matches.

Group A

Brazil vs. Mexico; Cameroon vs. Croatia

Brazil beat Croatia in a controversial tournament opener, before Mexico edged past Cameroon 1-0 in another game affected by refereeing decisions.

Brazil 3-1The winner of the fixture between Brazil and Mexico will all but guarantee themselves a place in the last 16.

Hosts Brazil are the overwhelming favourites, however they will need to improve against a Mexican side who were excellent for long periods in their win over Cameroon.

It’s hard to look past Brazil against Mexico and I suggest backing them at -1, especially if they can get an early goal.

Croatia should have too much for Cameroon in the second fixture, with the quality of Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic.

Niko Kovac will also have Mario Mandzukic available to him, after the forward was suspended for the opening fixture and that will boost their chances.

Best bet: Brazil -1, Croatia = 1.95 with Bet 365

Group B

Spain vs. Chile; Australia vs. Holland

Spain’s defeat to Holland was remarkable, given how the World champions capitulated after taking the lead through a Xabi Alonso penalty.

Vicente Del Bosque’s side simply can’t afford to lose against Chile otherwise they will be out of the competition at the first hurdle.

Chile started brilliantly against Australia, however ended up holding on to what was a needed three points with the two big sides to come.

Spain can’t be as bad as they were on Friday evening, although my bet for the game is a Chile draw no bet.

Holland put five past Spain and should score a few against the Australians, who looked defensively average against Chile.

Back Holland over 2.5 goals at 8/11 with Bet 365.

Best bet: Chile draw no bet, Holland and over 2.5 goals = 5.47 with Bet 365

Group C

Colombia vs. Ivory Coast; Japan vs. Greece

Colombia impressed in their easy win over Greece on Saturday and they face fellow Group C winners Ivory Coast on Thursday.

It is another fixture where realistically the winner is into the last 16 of the competition and even a defeat would leave them in a good position going into the final match.

Didier Drogba started on the bench for Ivory Coast on Sunday morning, however may return after his cameo inspired the side past Japan.

In a tough game to predict, I suggest going under 2.5 goals and 1-0 to either side if you want to cover a score result.

Japan were good for long periods against Ivory Coast, however conceded twice in as many minutes and ended up losing.

Greece face an uphill battle to qualify given their goal difference following a 3-0 defeat, although they will make it hard for Keisuke Honda and co.

Best bet: Both games under 2.5 goals = 2.15 with Bet 365

Accumulator: Brazil, Holland, Croatia, England and Italy to win – 9.05 with Bet 365
