Sri Lanka vs. South Africa – ODI Series Preview + Tips

Two of the top four ranked One Day International sides start their three match series next week, as Sri Lanka take on South Africa.

Sri Lanka go into the series on the back of success in England, where they won both the ODI and test match series.

Both series ending in thrilling finales, winning the final test match with two balls to come, after a long 10th wicket partnership had denied Sri Lanka.

They needed a last match victory to claim the ODI series as well, coming from 2-1 down to beat a new look England.

South Africa themselves haven’t had a fixture since the T20 World Cup, with their last One Day International back in December of last year.

The Proteas thrashed India in two of the three matches, winning both by over 100 runs, with the third cancelled due to rain.

First match betting tips

AB de Villiers will captain the South African ODI side against Sri Lanka, with test captain Hashim Amla also set to play a role, despite some indifferent form.

The conditions favour spin, meaning Aaron Phangiso has been called up into the squad, despite just five international caps prior to the series.

AB De VilliersJacques Kallis will feature, after retiring from the test scene and his medium pace will certainly help given the conditions.

Sri Lanka themselves will be able to call upon Kumar Sangakkara after his exceptional run of fifties at test level.

Angelo Mathews has re-taken the captaincy of the ODI side from Dinesh Chandimal, who lead the side out just twice!

Sri Lanka are favourites to win the first match and the series and despite the odds being perhaps unfavorable, they are still worth backing.

Back Sangakkara to continue his amazing form with the bat for Sri Lanka and at 5/2 with Bet 365, there is some value in backing him to come good once again.

Given the form of Amla, I suggest looking elsewhere for the top South African run scorer, with it between Kallis and De Villiers.

De Villiers is at 3’s given the fact he comes in at four for the Proteas and if Sri Lanka can take a couple of early wickets then he will be in early to score runs.

Top Sri Lanka run scorer – Kumar Sangakkara @ 5/2 with Bet 365

Top South African run scorer – AB De Villiers @ 3/1 with Bet 365
