Heineken Cup preview and tips

Toulon are favourites to defend their Heineken Cup going into the final with English side Saracens.

Saracens themselves have had a superb season and face Northampton in the AVIVA Premiership final the following Saturday.

Both sides will be going for the first of a unique double, with Toulon in the Top 14 final also to be played next weekend.

The pair got through differing semi-finals, with Saracens thrashing the French side Clermont 46-6, whilst Toulon edged past Munster.

Saracens only just managed to scrape through the group stage, qualifying as one of the two best runner up’s.

Leinster successfully defended the tournament as recently as 2012, although that wouldn’t take away from what would be an amazing achievement for Toulon.

Jonny WilkinsonPrior to last season Toulon had never reached a Heineken Cup final, let alone won the trophy and they stand on the verge of back to back titles.

Saracens captain Steve Borthwick is an injury doubt and will find out on Friday whether he will be playing in club Rugby’s biggest match.

Borthwick’s absence would be a real blow for Saracens, who has played a key role in their run to the final.

The final itself has been billed as Jonny Wilkinson versus Owen Farrell, the past and present of England’s fly half position.

Wilkinson will retire from rugby after Toulon’s final last two matches this season, bringing the curtain down on an amazing career.

As for Farrell he has been tipped by Wilkinson to be England’s number 10 for years to come and at just 22 it’s hard to argue against his claims.

In Wilkinson’s last ever European club Rugby match, I’m backing Toulon to have just a little bit too much for the English side.
